CASLV campuses are equipped for remote education, employing a personalized one-on-one technology approach. Each teacher, administrator, and student is provided with an individual device, whether it's a laptop or Chromebook.
In the event of an emergency requiring the implementation of distance learning, where students participate in remote education from their homes, we are well-prepared. We currently maintain a reserve of devices for potential malfunctions, and associated costs are covered, as these devices have already been distributed among our staff and students.
Senate Bill 215 (SB215) outlines provisions related to education, including alternative schedules and programs for distance learning. For more information on SB215, you can visit the Nevada Legislature website using the following link:
Students in need of a mobile device can borrow one from the school, and those requiring a Wi-Fi hotspot can also check one out. Classes and lessons will be conducted online through the Zoom or the Google Meet video conferencing virtual platforms. Assignments will be completed and submitted through Canvas and Clever platforms and will access their grades, attendance, and other records through the Infinite Campus Student Information System (SIS). To ensure safety, delivery ease, and promptness in case of a major emergency leading to school closure, devices and materials will be distributed to families through the carloop system. Lunch service will continue to be provided through the carloop system, allowing students to pick up their lunches. Students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) will receive all services through Zoom or Google Meet, following the Distance Learning Plan outlined in their IEP. Additionally, students in need of English Language (EL) support or intervention support will receive services through small group intervention via Zoom or Google Meet.
Parent / Teacher Conferences will also be scheduled to happen virtually once each semester. CASLV will regularly communicate with parents and students via digital programs/software such as Gmail, Clever, Canvas, Infinite Campus, Zoom, Google Meets and more.
If CASLV has to provide an emergency distance education program, the estimate of the cost for providing Chromebook/laptop devices, hotspots, digital programs & software will not be an additional cost as these devices and software have regularly been purchased and available for students every year. The average cost of providing a brand new Chromebook device and year-long licenses for softwares/programs/digital resources range from $300 to $600 per student depending on the grade level. This means a total cost of $1.5M - $3M.
